Single Colour Pixel LED Strip
Every LED Individually Controlled — Chase, Wave, Sparkle, and Dynamic Effects in One Pure Colour
What Is Single Colour Pixel LED Strip?
Pixel LED strips embed a microcontroller IC (such as WS2812B or SK6812) into or adjacent to each LED on the tape. This makes every single LED independently addressable — any pixel can be turned on, off, or dimmed regardless of its neighbours. The result is dynamic, moving, and programmed lighting effects that no standard strip can achieve.
Pixel LED vs. Standard LED Strip
Understanding the fundamental difference between addressable pixel and standard analogue LED strip.
🟣 Pixel (Addressable) LED Strip
- Each LED has its own IC — independently controllable
- Dynamic effects: chase, wave, twinkle, marquee, pulse
- Programmable patterns via controller or microcontroller
- 3-wire connection: +V, Data, Ground
- Effects play at up to 800kbps data refresh rate
- Single colour = maximum brightness for chosen colour
- Compatible with Arduino, DMX, SPI pixel controllers
- IP68 available for permanent outdoor/underwater use
⬜ Standard Analogue LED Strip
- All LEDs connected in parallel — all on/off together
- Static: only uniform brightness, no dynamic effects
- Dimming only — no individual pixel control possible
- 2-wire connection: +V and Ground
- No data protocol — simple PWM dimming only
- Simpler wiring, lower cost for static applications
- Compatible with standard CV drivers and dimmers
- IP ratings up to IP67
Built-In Pixel Effects
Every Nucleo pixel controller includes a library of pre-programmed effects — no coding required for most applications.
Running Chase
A single lit pixel travels along the strip repeatedly — classic marquee, channel letter, and directional sign effect.
Wave / Scroll
Brightness wave scrolls smoothly along the strip length — cinematic, fluid movement for façades and signage.
Twinkle / Sparkle
Random pixels flash independently — creates a star-field effect. Perfect for star ceilings and fibre-optic style displays.
Breathing Pulse
Entire strip or segments fade in and out rhythmically — a calm, organic effect for retail window displays and ambient lighting.
Meteor / Comet
A bright leading pixel trails a fading tail across the strip — resembles a shooting star or comet. Spectacular on building outlines.
Segmented Zone
Divide any strip into independent zones addressable separately — different effects playing simultaneously on one continuous strip.
Available Pixel Colours
Single-colour pixel strips deliver higher brightness than RGB strips of the same wattage — all power goes to one colour, not shared across three.
Cool White
6000–6500K
Signage, retail, offices, star ceilings
Warm White
2700–3000K
Hospitality, residential, display
Red
620–630nm
Events, stage, seasonal, fire effects
Green
520–530nm
Garden, nature installations, safety
Blue
460–470nm
Pools, water features, night-time effects
Amber
590–600nm
Heritage lighting, warm architectural, street
Supported Pixel IC Protocols
Nucleo pixel strips are available with multiple industry-standard IC protocols for different project requirements.
WS2812B — 5V Integrated IC
Most popular protocol worldwide. IC integrated inside the LED package. Single-wire data protocol. Widely supported by Arduino, FastLED, WLED, and all major pixel controllers. Best for short indoor runs up to 5–10m.
WS2811 — 12V/24V External IC
External IC controls groups of 3 LEDs per pixel. Available in 12V and 24V — better for long runs and higher wattage outdoor installations. Same data protocol as WS2812B — fully compatible with same controllers.
SK6812 — Enhanced WS2812B
Improved version with better refresh rate (800kHz vs 400kHz), smoother dimming at low levels, and tighter colour consistency across a reel. Drop-in compatible with WS2812B controllers and code libraries.
UCS1903 — Long-Distance Data
Optimised for longer data signal transmission distances — up to 30m without signal repeaters. Used in large building façade pixel installations where multiple strips chain over long distances.
Why Choose Nucleo Pixel LED Strip?

Installation Guide
Pixel strips require data signal management in addition to power — key differences from standard strip installation.
💡 Basic Pixel Controller Setup
- Select a pixel controller compatible with your IC type (WS2812B, WS2811, or SK6812). Calculate total pixel count and select a controller with sufficient pixel count capacity (e.g., T-1000S handles up to 1,024 pixels).
- Connect the power supply output to the controller's power input. For 5V WS2812B strips, use a 5V regulated power supply rated at 60W per 5 metres of 60-pixel strip. For 12V WS2811, use a 12V supply.
- Connect the 3-wire output from the controller to the first strip segment: +V (red), DATA (green/white), GND (black). Ensure data wire is connected to the data input end of the strip — arrows on the FPC base indicate data flow direction.
- For runs over 5m (5V) or 10m (12V): inject power at mid-points or every 5/10m by connecting +V and GND directly from the power supply at those injection points. Do not inject data — the data chain continues uninterrupted from the controller through all segments.
- Programme the controller with your desired effects using the SD card, RF remote, or app as appropriate. Set pixel count in the controller menu to match your total strip length.
- Power on and verify all pixels respond correctly. Check for any dark or incorrect pixels — usually indicates a data wiring issue at a junction or a failed IC in that pixel (single IC failures don't affect downstream pixels with WS2812B/SK6812).
📱 WLED (WiFi Smart Control) Setup
- Flash WLED firmware onto an ESP32 or ESP8266 development board (NodeMCU, Wemos D1 Mini, or similar). WLED is free, open-source firmware available at wled.me — flash using the online web installer in any browser, no coding needed.
- Connect the ESP32/8266 data output pin (GPIO 2 or 4) to the DATA wire of the pixel strip. Connect GND of the ESP to GND of the strip and power supply. Power the ESP separately from its USB port or 3.3V regulator — do not power from the same 5V rail as a large strip.
- Power on the ESP. It broadcasts a WiFi hotspot. Connect your smartphone to this hotspot and open the WLED app. Configure your home WiFi credentials so the ESP joins your network permanently.
- In WLED settings, configure: LED type (WS2812B, WS2811, or SK6812), LED count, and max current limit (set to 80% of power supply rating). Enable Alexa or Google Home integration if required.
- Select from 100+ built-in effects in the WLED app. Create presets for different scenes. Set up schedules and triggers. For multi-zone control, configure WLED segments to address different sections of the strip independently.
- For outdoor or permanent installations, seal the ESP board in a weatherproof enclosure with cable glands. Use IP67 pixel strip and weatherproof all power injection points.
✨ Light in Motion — Where Architecture Becomes Dynamic
Static light illuminates. Dynamic light captivates. The difference between a building that is merely lit and one that draws crowds, between a shop window that is visible and one that stops people mid-stride — is motion. Pixel LED technology puts that motion under precise, programmable control.
Single-colour pixel strips concentrate every watt into one pure colour — the brightest possible expression of white, red, green, blue, or amber. For façade chases, star-field ceilings, underwater pool effects, and animated signage, there is no brighter or more dynamic single-colour LED option available.
Nucleo pixel LED strips are supplied with compatible controllers, power supplies, and technical commissioning support for installations Pan India — from individual retail fit-outs to large-scale architectural and events lighting projects.
