Fiber Optic Mesh & Fabric
Woven Starlight — Hundreds of Glowing Fiber Points Across Any Surface. Heatless. UV-Free. Magical.
What Is Fiber Optic Mesh?
Fiber optic mesh is a flexible fabric or net in which hundreds of side-emitting polymer optical fibers (PMMA) are woven or embedded. Every fiber runs back to a single bundle that plugs into a remote LED light engine — the illuminator. Light travels down each fiber and escapes gently along its length, turning the entire mesh surface into a softly glowing field of light points. The light engine stays hidden; only the glow is visible.
How Fiber Optic Mesh Works
A beautifully simple optical system — one light source, hundreds of glowing points.
LED Illuminator
Remote LED light engine (10W–50W) converts electrical input into high-intensity focused light. Mounted in ceiling void or cabinet — out of sight.
Fiber Bundle
Hundreds of PMMA optical fibers bundle together at one connector end. All fibers receive light from the illuminator simultaneously through a single input port.
Fiber Mesh
Fibers fan out and are woven into the mesh or fabric base. Each fiber is individually flexible — the mesh bends and conforms to any curved or flat surface.
Side Emission
Light exits gently along the length of each fiber through microscopic surface imperfections — creating a distributed, soft glow across the entire mesh area.
Twinkle / Colour
Optional rotating wheel in illuminator creates random twinkling. RGB wheel cycles through colours — the entire mesh shifts in hue simultaneously.
Fiber Optic Mesh vs. End-Glow Strand Stars
Two different fiber optic products for two different visual results — choose the right one for your application.
✦ Fiber Optic Mesh (Side-Emitting)
- Soft diffuse glow across entire surface area
- Entire fabric lights up — no dark zones between fibers
- Creates luminous fabric, panel, or curtain effect
- Used for feature walls, partitions, backlit panels
- Low-intensity ambient glow — eye-comfort for long exposure
- Flexible — conforms to curved surfaces and 3D forms
- Colour-shifting via RGB wheel — entire panel changes colour
- Ideal for: spa walls, lounge ceilings, meditation rooms
★ End-Glow Fiber Optic Strands (Star Ceiling)
- Bright pinpoint at fiber tip only — sharp star simulation
- Dark field between strands — stars against black sky
- Creates star-field, constellation, or meteor effect
- Used for star ceilings, home theatres, planetarium effects
- Higher tip brightness — visible from greater distance
- Strands individually placed — precise star positioning possible
- Twinkling via wheel — random stars blink independently
- Ideal for: star ceilings, dark rooms, event installations

Why Choose Nucleo Fiber Optic Mesh?
Zero Heat at Surface
The mesh fabric emits light only — no electricity, no heat. The light engine is remote. Safe to touch, safe behind fabric, safe in enclosed spaces with no ventilation.
No Electrical Hazard
No mains voltage in the mesh itself — only optical signals carried by PMMA fibers. Safe for children's rooms, nurseries, sensory spaces, and wet areas when light engine is appropriately located.
Full Colour Changing
RGB illuminator slowly cycles the entire mesh through warm whites, cool blues, violets, and ambers — creating a meditative, evolving light environment from a single panel.
Twinkle Effect
Motorised wheel in illuminator creates random twinkling — different points of the mesh brighten and dim asynchronously, creating a living, breathing light surface.
Easy Installation
Mesh panels mount like fabric panels — stretched on a frame, glued to a surface, or suspended as curtains. No electrical connections in the mesh zone — only a single fiber bundle cable to the illuminator.
Long Life — Low Maintenance
The LED illuminator lasts 50,000 hours. PMMA fibers do not degrade under normal use. No bulbs, no tubes, no regular maintenance — set and forget for years of continuous operation.

Installation Guide
🌌 Star Ceiling Panel Install
- Determine the ceiling area to be covered by mesh. For a standard bedroom star ceiling, one 1m × 3m panel covers the central ceiling above the bed — the most impactful zone. Multiple panels tile together for full-ceiling coverage.
- Mount the LED illuminator in the ceiling void above the panel area using the supplied bracket. Position it within 2 metres of the fiber bundle exit point — the fiber bundle cable has limited length (typically 1.5–2m between illuminator and mesh panel).
- Feed the fiber bundle cable from the illuminator position through a 20mm hole in the plasterboard ceiling. The mesh panel hangs below the ceiling, with the fiber bundle disappearing upward through this hole to the illuminator.
- Attach the mesh panel to the ceiling using a combination of staple gun along the edges (into timber battens if plasterboard) and construction adhesive contact spray for the central area. Press firmly and evenly — the mesh must lie flat against the ceiling without sagging.
- Alternatively, stretch the mesh over a timber frame slightly smaller than the panel area — creating a ceiling tile. The frame is fixed to the ceiling with screws, and the taut mesh face is the star surface.
- Connect the fiber bundle to the illuminator's input port. Power on — the ceiling activates immediately. Test twinkle effect and colour wheel speed. Adjust illuminator brightness to the desired ambient level. The ceiling void should be dark — any light leak around the panel edges reduces the contrast of the star effect.
🪟 Wall Panel / Curtain Install
- For wall panel installation: stretch the mesh over a lightweight timber or aluminium frame built to the desired panel dimensions. Use a staple gun every 100mm around the perimeter — keep tension uniform to avoid visible sagging in the mesh face.
- Mount the framed panel to the wall using mirror plates or Z-clips — concealed fixings are preferable as they maintain the illusion of a floating light surface. For heavy panels (over 2m²), use at least four fixing points.
- For hanging curtain installation: attach a curtain track or rod above the intended position. The mesh panel has a sewn header channel — slide the track hooks through the header and hang the curtain. The fiber bundle runs upward through a small gap to the illuminator mounted above the track.
- For partition screens: build a double-sided frame and stretch mesh on both faces, with the fiber bundle shared between sides or with two separate illuminators for different effects on each face.
- Position the illuminator in an accessible but concealed location — inside a ceiling cavity, behind a fascia panel, or in an equipment cabinet. Maximum illuminator-to-mesh cable length is 2m without custom extended cables.
- Power on and assess the panel in both normal room light and darkness. The effect is most dramatic in a dark or dim room — design the panel position and room lighting controls so the mesh panel can be the dominant light source when desired.
✦ When the Ceiling Becomes the Sky
There are lighting products that illuminate a space and lighting products that transform it. Fiber optic mesh belongs entirely to the second category. The moment the illuminator activates and hundreds of soft glowing points appear across the ceiling or wall, the room changes its nature — it becomes something that invites quiet, wonder, and presence.
This effect is not decoration. It is a change in the quality of the experience of being in a room. Hotel guests remember the ceiling above their bed for years. Children fall asleep more readily under a ceiling of twinkling light. Spa guests describe the treatment room wall as the thing that made them feel they had truly arrived somewhere. That's what fiber optic mesh does that no other lighting product can — it creates a sky where there wasn't one.
Nucleo supplies fiber optic mesh in custom sizes, with matching illuminators, complete installation hardware, and technical support for projects Pan India — from a single bedroom ceiling to a full hotel suite renovation.
